Team Management

Respect is not earned overnight. You have to work for it to gain the trust and respect of your team.

Managing human resources or team members is a tough job. Different personalities are mixed within the group, each with unique points of view, opinions, judgments and understanding. Lack of proper management on dealing with them can create conflicts within the group. That’s why if you’re the boss, make sure that you manage your people well in such a way that you encourage each one to be a truthfully committed member of the team. Here are some useful tips on people management:

• Don’t rely on the fact that just because you are the boss people will already obey your orders and respect you. You have to exert extra effort to establish your credibility and show a character by listening more rather than talking a lot. Be fair when treating your people and welcome feedbacks from them. Respect is earned. You cannot just demand it because of your title.

• If you have a virtual team member, also try to work on earning his trust and respect. A person who is a million miles away can only open up to you if he already trust you.

• There’s always someone within the group who is an individual performer. Someone who competes within his group and lifts himself up alone. The presence of a competition within the group can, in a way, motivate the others. But if it gets out of hand and becomes too strong, it can sometimes ruin and stain a relationship. If this happens, try to turn that person into a team player. In difficult times, if you battle together as a team, you will most likely to triumph.

• Improve your team’s performance by intensifying cooperation and trust among them. One way to do this is to conduct an activity wherein each one will be made aware of his team’s skills and personalities.

• Inter-generational differences are also most likely to occur when it comes to communication methods and work habits. Older team members are more likely to stick to a traditional work setting while young ones are comfortable working anywhere and anytime using mobile gadgets and social media. As the boss, you have to work this out and see what’s best for both in such a way that you are encouraging them towards achieving the team’s goal.

• Always conduct a team learning activity. This is very vital in achieving a team’s goal especially if team members have various sound ideas.
